The Spiral Almond flaunts the first blossom of the year in this corner of north London; in a mild winter, its big pink flowers can bloom spectacularly at the end of January. At other times of year, it’s worth visiting for its bizarre trunk that corkscrews around on itself. How this came to pass is an intriguing mystery.
Only two weeks ago I featured the Pimlico Mimosa as my great tree of the week, so apologies to anyone who feels I am being too London-centric. But, this wonderful London almond is featured because I would like to share the great news that it is in flower right now – much later than in some recent years. A trip to Finsbury Park is highly recommended for blossom-fanciers.

Beautiful blossom, and what a story in that trunk! Interesting to have two months variation in flowering time. Is this about the latest do you think?
