On a summer day in Glasgow, the lush, damp depths of Ross Hall Park can feel like a tropical rainforest. There are fern- and moss-fringed pools, and dozens of unusual trees planted more than a century ago. One of the most striking of the now mature plants is the magnificent Japanese maple close to the edge of the park near the hospital. Come in the spring to catch the first flush of its delicate leaves.

See you in July?
I have a few events lined up over the summer, including talks and walks at bookshops, and I shall also be at ALSO! ALSO is a lovely and gentle Festival taking place over three days in the beautiful setting of a Capability Brown landscape next to Compton Verney in Warwickshire. I’ll be leading a tree walk around the festival site and doing a talk about Tree Hunting. If you’re thinking about going to a summer festival this year, I totally recommend ALSO.
