190. Hellfire Corner Elm
Thriving against the odds, an elm welcomes those landing in Dover.
Tiny Granville Gardens and its striking ‘Horizontalis’ wych elm lie just beyond Dover’s seafront, where once the equally striking mid-twentieth-century Dover Stage hotel stood. The hotel is long gone, but the elm has grown into a local landmark. It is at its fleeting best when the copious seeds appear in spring, quickly followed by asymmetric leaves, a typical elm feature.

See you in Brockley
I’m part of an author panel at the Brockley Max Festival on 1st June. I’m very much looking forward to this event which includes Jack Cornish, author of The Lost Paths (a great book, I thoroughly recommend it!) The event is organised by Crofton Books and it’s free to attend – hope to see you there!
