40. Boulevard Plane
Nottingham grew rapidly in the nineteenth century, its planned growth exemplified by tree lined avenues where London planes continue to be their defining feature.
Nottingham's Boulevards form three sides of a square around the city centre. Constructed as part of the grand Victorian plan following the Nottingham Enclosure act, they are in many parts still resplendent with nineteenth century London planes. One of the most impressive trees is just off Castle Boulevard, next to the phone box on Peverill Drive with the bare rock of the cliff below the castle as its backdrop.
