55. Newark Oriental Plane
An enormous oriental plane surprises in the midlands market town of Newark-on-Trent.
The Newark Oriental Plane is one of the biggest in England. The small park in which it resides was once a short lived friary in the 1500s, but while this tree is old, it is certainly not that old. There is some debate as to when the species, a native of Greece and western Asia, arrived in these islands, it is first described in a herbal of the 16th century.

Magnificent trees. I absolutely love this account. Highlighting trees so many people walk by every day without appreciating their age, status and importance.
