62. Abbey Tree of Heaven
Close to Shrewsbury Abbey, a suitably angelic street tree impresses flocks of passers-by in its prime location.
In England, there appears to be a sweet spot for trees of heaven from about Shropshire north to Lancashire where they thrive but do not yet show invasive tendencies as the species does further south. The same is true in Ireland where trees like the Glasnevin Tree of Heaven in Dublin appear to be in rude health. Shrewsbury’s Abbey Tree of Heaven is a particularly fine example growing happily on busy Abbey Foregate not far from Shrewsbury Abbey.
