98. Duthie Beech
Standing sentinel in an Aberdeen park, a beech tree towers over all around it.
Hardy beech trees thrive in north east Scotland, and the Duthie Beech has taken so kindly to the formal surroundings of Aberdeen’s well kept Duthie Park that it has developed ten metres or more of smooth unbranched trunk. Perhaps it once had to jostle for the light within a group of other trees, but now it grows in splendid isolation watching over the boating pond.

Amazing form. Bark looks quite twisted for a beech.
