Have you tried vontacting Herr Thallinger of Allianz, drawing his attention to the effects of his company's actions, and pointing out his inconsistency?
Right with you, Gio, thank you. Insurance is utterly abhorrent in its huge detriment to society, from trees to activities, plus the fetish for clean and neat and easy, nothing must require effort or risk, especially to a shareholder.
Absolutely...I know anecdotally of many examples of folks being intimidated into felling beautiful old trees and then only to find that the problems of movement and cracking persists. A few years ago insurance claims spiked in the very hot summers of 2022/2023 - this year will no doubt be the same, think how many trees will be under threat then?! and I hate neat and tidy...it has caused so much trouble yet persists in so many people's minds...
Yes, all of that. I was refused insurance on one house because I wouldn’t fell a 300 year old beech, in excellent health, which would have squashed the whole house if had fallen. But I knew enough about trees to shrug and not buy insurance. Most would have felled it and what a pointless loss.
Absolutely you did the right thing. I know of a heart-breaking case happening right now - someone in our national tree group Canopy who is battling to save an oak tree in his garden. They are being intimidated horribly by the insurance company who refuse to insure them until they fell the tree. We need to name and shame these insurers! And really a change in the law is needed to protect trees against unscrupulous insurers. It's a slow but steady war against these incredibly valuable trees.
Awful, and sadly too common. Insurance companies strangle everything good in life but I can’t see any government in sight taking them on, they all bow at their money-is-everything altar.

No, but a very good point! Will action this.
