Giant redwoods have been in the UK and Ireland for less than 200 years, but they make a significant contribution to our landscapes.
I'm a Californian, delighted to know that redwoods have found their way to the British Isles.
They thrive here, and in fact the wetter it is the better they do, there's an interesting study comparing growth rates in different parts of the UK here: https://insideecology.com/2024/03/14/redwood-trees-are-growing-almost-as-fast-in-the-uk-as-their-californian-cousins-new-study/
I've always been fond of redwoods! Though my yard is much too small for one!
There’s a lot to love about redwoods, in the right place of course.
The right places might be at Blenheim with redwoods instead of that tatty formal garden or instead of that dreadful great lawn! Change the place for the better!
