135. Big Foot
Quite what caused this Welsh oddity to take the form it must be a matter of much speculation in Newport.
Big Foot is a strange Californian with a conspicuous feature. A maturing giant redwood in Belle Vue Park (with a fine view of Newport’s transporter bridge) has developed a massive swollen ‘foot’ at the base of its trunk. Resembling a rocky outcrop, this orangey-brown protuberance has attracted kids for years, and has been worn smooth from all this attention.

A burl and quite common at that. Benign and hopefully no one will be so daft as to try removing it!
