77. Western Bank Plane
A fabulous oriental plane in Sheffield was spared the destruction that so many street trees faced in this city.
Next to Starbucks, a capacious canopy extends over busy Western Bank opposite Weston Park Museum. It is a landmark for many and belongs to an old oriental plane tree that could have been here for at least 150 years. Robert Marnock laid out Weston Park in 1873 having many years previously designed the Botanical Gardens in 1833 and Sheffield General Cemetery in 1836 where another oriental plane can be seen.

Talking trees, among other things
On Wednesday evening, I was a guest on the Liam Davis Show on Shoreditch Radio. I’m on after about 30 minutes talking about trees and my travels, click here to listen to the podcast.
If only we had more trees like that everywhere
Do not understand when they cut the canopy on Plane street trees. Especially when they cut them in mid summer, ridiculous. It is a miracle they survive. I wish they were all left like this beautiful specimen, she looks very happy.
