127. Attwood’s Cedar
Birmingham is a city of many cedars, one of the finest is connected with one of city’s most influential nineteenth century politicians.
Of all the cedars in Birmingham, this one is the best looking. It is an exceptionally well-shaped cedar of Lebanon in Grove Park at Harborne, once the grounds of The Grove, a grand Georgian house. The tree may have been planted by Sir Thomas Attwood, a leading proponent of the Great Reform Bill that would give new industrial cities like Birmingham parliamentary representation, who lived here between 1823-1846.

I love cedars of Lebanon, with their spreading branches.
I have a real fondness for those trees. My mother's place had an old one and someone told us it would not live much longer but forty years later it was still going strong.
