94. Erskine House Plane
A young oriental plane in Belfast can trace its lineage back to Ancient Greece.
The Erskine House Plane is an oriental plane planted in the 1960s within the grounds of Belfast City Hospital from seeds provided by Dr Dimitrios Oreopoulos, a Greek renal specialist who studied here. The tree is directly descended from the Tree of Hippocrates, a five hundred year old plane growing on the Greek island of Kos, which can trace its own lineage back to the tree under which the father of medicine taught 2500 years ago.
